Overwater Safety

Course Overview

The Rope Over Water (ROW) course is intended for rescuers who already hold, at a minimum, Swiftwater and Flood Rescue Technician (SRT) and Rope Rescue Operator (RRO) qualifications.

It focuses on the specific challenges involved in rescues that combine both rope and water-based disciplines, with an emphasis on managing the hazards that arise when these skill sets are integrated.

This course replaces the rope-over-water components of the former SRT Advanced – Water and Rope (SRTA-W&R) programme. The separate 3-day Swiftwater and Flood Rescue Technician Advanced – Water (SRTA-W) course continues to run. This course contains no vertical rope elements and serves as the prerequisite water module for SRT Instructors and those seeking advanced swiftwater capability.

For those aiming to develop advanced rope rescue skills, the Rope Rescue Technician (RRT) course provides high-level competencies including non-reeving (dipping) highlines. Beyond this, the Rope Rescue Specialist (RRS) course expands further into advanced techniques such as reeving highlines.
