Course Overview
The Outdoor Safety and Risk Managment course is designed for individuals working in remote, coastal, upland, or otherwise unfamiliar terrain where environmental conditions and limited access can significantly increase operational risk.
It provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills needed to recognise hazards, assess risk, and operate safely in challenging outdoor environments. Participants will develop a strong understanding of environmental factors such as weather in remote areas, and how these can influence decision-making, planning, and operational safety.
Key topics include the selection and management of appropriate personal equipment for remote work, basic navigation skills for off-road and unmarked terrain, and the completion of effective risk assessments tailored to outdoor environments.
Learners will also explore hazard recognition techniques, with a focus on identifying and mitigating risks before they escalate into incidents. The course further covers planning for and responding to emergency situations in isolated locations, including communication considerations and initial incident management until further support arrives.
Overall, the OSRA course equips participants with essential competencies to improve safety, preparedness, and confidence when working in demanding outdoor environments.
